GUM DISEASE TREATMENTS

Treatment Options

If you've been diagnosed with gum disease, there are a variety of treatment options depending on the details of your situation and the severity of the problem. We always start with the least invasive options, which are non-surgical. However, in more serious cases, referral to a specialist may be necessary.

Non-Surgical Options

The first line of defense against gum disease is a unique deep cleaning called “scaling and root planing.” In this procedure, an ultrasonic cleaning device is used to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth where regular cleaning devices can't reach: under the gum line, on the tooth, and around the root. Then, the rough surface of the tooth and the root are smoothed out (planed). This provides a healthy, clean surface that makes it easier for the gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.

If you address your gum disease before it becomes severe, scaling and root planing may be the only treatment you need. However, as with any dental procedure, after-care is vital. In order to keep your teeth in good shape and resist future occurrences of gum disease, you must brush and floss daily, eat a healthy diet, avoid tobacco use, and have regular dental checkups. Even after a successful scaling and root planing, if you don't attend to your teeth properly, it's quite likely that you'll develop gum disease again.
Plaque Buildup
Plaque buildup can cause bacteria to diminish your gum line and lead to gum disease.
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a procedure that can help to combat gum disease.
X-Rays
X-rays can allow us to asses the gumline and its interaction with the root of the tooth.
Flossing
Flossing on a regular basis can help prevent gum disease and promote oral health.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

To ensure gum disease treatment is affordable to all of our patients, we offer a variety of payment methods. We accept most major credit cards, checks, and cash. In addition to these traditional methods we accept health savings accounts, CareCredit. If you have a specific payment question call our office, or ask during your appointment.

INSURANCE

Prior to scheduling treatment at our office, you'll speak with our financial coordinator to discuss the cost of your gum disease treatment and the financial specifics of your individual care. If you have insurance, usually this service is covered with your policy; however, that may not always be the case. If you don't have insurance, we'll outline your options for you!
